We are in the beginning of the 2018 golf season and it is very important to implement the local rules in your golf course competitions. Usually this is the responsibility of the head pro and the Captain’s Committee.
In case of a dispute
If I am asked to solve a dispute or if the dispute is forwarded to Golf Canada, we will answer only if the competition was played within the Rules of Golf.
Examples of forbidden rules
-A permitting to move the ball with the head of club while playing preferred lies
-B accept players giving themselves Gimmies
-C not asking the players to sign there scorecards
-D put into effect the possibility to move a ball in a bad lie in a bunker
-E any other decisions contrary to the Rules
Annual local rules to be adopted
At the beginning of the year, the golf clubs should adopt annual local rules that will be in effect in all the official competitions (inter-clubs, club championships, etc).
Examples of annual local rules
-1 identify the areas where drop zones will be used
-2 where are the Out of Bounds (Driving range? Club House?, parking?)
-3 adopt the local rule saying a ball moved accidently on a green must be replaced and there is no penalty
-4 what are the status of the 150 yards markers, fences, buildings, etc)
-5 consider the aeration holes as being ground under repair.
